Light the Valley CT Shine Event: Breast Cancer Awareness!

Light the Valley CT Shine Event: Breast Cancer Awareness!

On Friday October 1st I attended the 2nd annual Light the Valley CT Shine event. Light the Valley CT is a group who’s mission is to promote breast cancer awareness and honor or memorialize those affected by breast cancer. They also fundraise to better patient services at The Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness for Griffin Hospital. They offer information about breast cancer, wellness, and early detection.

October is breast cancer awareness month. Cancer has affected many people I love, not just breast cancer, including my father who died from leukemia when he was 40. My beautiful former co-worker passed from ovarian cancer. I also know many people who have survived cancer and show me that support, fundraising, advocacy is so vital. Breast Cancer especially is such a sadly common cancer that effects women and men of all ages!

The first night of October was beautiful here in Connecticut. There was a distinct Autumn chill but still warm enough where a cardigan or sweater could suffice. The event was held in Oxford’s town green. There were vendors there, supporters, survivors, yoga, and music.

ZarMi which is a bra boutique in Oxford, CT which also sells (very comfy) clothes was a vendor and huge contributor to this event. There were luminaries to “light” the valley that you could buy at their boutique and other places. I loved stopping in to check out their gorgeous clothes and see their array of bras and underwear. They carry a wide variety of designers and the owners are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable.  I love how they are so charitable and get involved in a variety of events to help others.

I was so happy that my friend, her sister-in-law came, and we enjoyed the music, vendors, and supporters. We shopped the stores and enjoyed the night. There were many people there, whether you are personally effected or not, it’s important to show support for these wonderful foundations.

I met Cindy Sevelle who is a breast cancer survivor. She’s vivacious and beautiful and an author. I talked to her and bought a book to give to another friend of mine who’s battling breast cancer. I loved her energy!!

There were many raffles as well. The last time I won a raffle was when I was 11 at a church raffle. Guess what? I won! I won a beautiful bouquet from Dragonflies, LLC a floral studio. It was a gorgeous bouquet full of lovely shades of pink. I put it on my table and thought so much about all the breast cancer warriors. You are so loved.

Are you someone who’s battling breast cancer or love someone who is? I highly recommend buying Cindy’s book and checking out Seymour Pink as well.
