My Story about Makeup and Skincare
My love affair with beauty products started in my teens. Unlike a lot of girls in my high school, I stuck to the basics: concealer, blush (which was my mom's) and mascara (which also was my mom's). Most days I didn't wear any makeup but when I did I'd stick to those three things. I didn't have acne, but there were times I'd have break outs (mainly hormonal) and my skin is fair. I used Neutrogena because of the commercials and never thought anything of it.
Once I hit 19 all of a sudden I started thinking about aging and wrinkling. 19. I don't know what the hell I was thinking but I started investing in anti-aging and anti-wrinkle serums and creams. I was in college and marveled at girls who did their eyeliner perfectly and had shades of gold and lavender on their eyelids. I had no clue how to navigate the world of makeup.
By my 20's I already had a skincare (and slight beauty) routine down. I used and still use Pond's moisturizer religiously. I have very dry skin no matter what season and it's the only thing that soothes my skin without a burn. I love lipsmackers (which later turned to Baby Lips in Cherry). I became friends with girls who were brunette and tanned and had perfect eyeliner. They used hair straighteners. That's where it all started. My friend Denissa introduced me to eyeliner. I practiced with liquid eyeliner over and over until I got it right. (Since makeup removers were too harsh for my skin, I used my moisturizer to wipe off the flawed eyeliner wings). I started spray tanning (and OMG DID I LOOK ORANGE/WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL ME!!) and noticed how it covered little imperfections. I stocked up glossy lipgloss and loved pale pink eye shadows. That was my look for about a decade - pale pink eyelids, winged eyeliner, spray tans with concealer to cover up my pesky dark circles I've had all my life and a touch of blush. I lived down south where lipstick is still popular, so I always had a shade of pink or red on my lips.
In the past two or three years I started minimizing my beauty routine and increasing my skincare routine. I dropped eyeshadow and blush. I went for more natural-looking organic spray tans. With my fair skin, I noticed how light my eyebrows were. I started getting them threaded and temporarily dyed with a light brown henna. All of a sudden my eyebrows popped! I started using sunscreen religiously. I always was so worried about wrinkles but that is a part of the aging process. I've done the whole botox/juvederm/Restylane and loved it but it's an expensive thing to love. I still have stacks of eye creams and anti-aging serums but I make sure to wear sunscreen and drink lots of water.
Which brings me to present day. Recently I had a conversation with a (now past) resident of mine, Florencia. I noticed she'd often recieve packages from BeautyCounter and I never heard of it. I always wanted to be a journalist, so my curiosity got to me. We started talking and one day we met for an hour after work in the clubhouse dining room talking about skincare. I started thinking about the chemicals and ingridients I was putting on my body. When I went home, I looked through all my products. I researched BeautyCounter thouroughly. I loved how they were SaferBeauty. They were still giving you a glamorous product but without all the harmful chemicals. I quickly purchased some items and tried out the testers Florencia gave me. I fell in love. I decided to become a consultant for BeautyCounter because I loved their message, their product. It was something I stand by. Their mission statement says it all:
"At Beautycounter, we’re committed to a health and safety standard that goes well beyond what’s required by U.S. law: We’ve banned the use of more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals through our "Never List”—all while ensuring our products perform and that they’re as indulgent as any other luxe shampoo, lipstick, or oil in the market."
By no means, will my blog turn into a skincare/makeup selling website. This is still a place for all my thoughts about life, style, fashion and beauty. This is a new endeavor for me so I'm excited and excited to share it with you all! I hope you continue reading about my journey not only as a BeautyCounter consultant buy my life in general. I hope to update my blog more often about a wide variety of topics but sticking to the heart of my blog - my life.
