"Come in out of the darkness"

Interior Design, Vintage Style.

Interior Design, Vintage Style.

As the new year ushered in, it also meant ringing in a Covid 19 positive diagnosis, moving and the passing of my Nana. As those winter months stretch into the early and mid March days I feel I have finally found my groove again - re-discovering my love of antiquing and interior design and finding ways to organize in a way that’s authentic to my aesthetic.

I have really come to find Goodwill, consignment and Antique shops a home of beautiful decor and furniture that’s often very affordable. I live in Connecticut - some of these shops may be local, but absolutely encourage my readers to check out that consignment shop you’ve been telling yourself you’ll go to or the Goodwill you drive by every day in your city and state.

Finding Your Aesthetic

Our aesthetic should always come authentically. What draws you in and what do YOU feel makes your house a home? Everyone has their own unique style and honing in on it can feel overwhelming with so many options, so many styles, so many opinion pieces on what’s fashionable or not. I say - it’s your home and decorate as you feel fit. Pinterest is a wealth of inspiration. I’ve also used Instagram to source items and find creativity. Some of my favorite accounts - heathersshabbycottage, mychippylovingheart and The Cottage Journal .

I love browsing consignment shops as well to take a mental inventory of what I like and what speaks to my heart. I’m budget conscious and don’t like clutter - what will work and what will end up in a corner not being used or displayed?

A color scheme was a big puzzle piece that I quickly found. I wanted my home to exude a romantic, shabby chic style with farmhouse and bohemian tones. Pinks, whites and tans were my palette and it helped me navigate buying furniture and matching decor. What colors draw you in? Soothe you? Inspire you? Make you feel safe and cozy? That’s what I looked for when picking a color palette.

Shop Vintage Pieces

If you are new to this blog or my brand, I love love vintage pieces. I love antiquing. I did a lot of shopping and sourcing throughout my home state at Goodwill, Adorn Vintage and Restoration, Homemaker Thrift Shop and online through many shops on Etsy!

Shop Handmade

Etsy is also a wealth of treasure as we just discussed including sustainable and handmade. Shopping sustainable is important to me and with Etsy you have that choice! There’s something incredibly beautiful and intimate about someone using their hands to build and create a piece of art. I lined up just a few of my favorite handmade pieces.

Get Organized

I also love how Etsy and (many other places) offer a sleeker way to hold and contain your household products in an organized manner. Whether it’s jars, bottles with labels or printing out the labels yourself - it offers a polished way to coordinate your belongings.

Finding the Perfect Pieces at Department Stores

Of course, I didn’t source everything vintage, handmade or gently loved. I did look for the best deals and sweetest pieces for my coffee table, electric fireplace, couch and kitchen stools (along with other items such as floor cushions!) I searched my favorite pieces to showcase with the link to shop along:

Shop My Looks and Favorites

My love for interior design has really shown me so many magazines, Instagram accounts and Etsy shops to watch and admire. I have cultivated some of my very favorite furniture and home decor you can shop and feel inspired by:
