My Blogoversary
it’s been seven years since I’ve been blogging! March will mark one year as this blog has been operating as Betty Juliet Diaries, an ode to vintage style & fashion. There are many articles about the dying off of blogs but I still believe in them and their power to enchant, inspire and motivate. A platform like instagram may come and go but this is something I own, something that is mine - and that is very special. I see my blog as very much an extension of myself - my interests and a reflection of where my head and heart are. My blog serves both as a cathartic experience and also a creative adventure. When I work on photo shoots or design it reminds me of when I first discovered fashion magazines and I’d flip through the pages with wonder and excitement. I’d scan over each editorial and advertisement - soaking in all the beauty and ornate style I could. The desire to make my own magazine - to make something from my heart from photographs and words - was suddenly born. Even during times when I’ve had to take breaks from my blog, it’s always there waiting for me. A blank post ready to be filled with my thoughts, dreams and loves.
Since it’s 7 years of this blog i decided to share 7 fun facts about me.
I am only 5’5 and half. Everyone thinks I’m 5’7/5’8. I don’t wear high heels either so not sure why I look longer than I do ha!
I LOVE LOVE 80’s sad love songs! My favorite song of all time is Genesis “In Too Deep”!
My “almost names” since I asked my mom: Ashley, Brittany, Lindsay, Scarlett or Lhiannon. Yes, I spelled that right - my parents loved the song Rhiannon but thought it would be prettier with an “L”. I think Scarlett would have been cute since my mom’s name is Melanie and she’s obsessed with Gone with the Wind.
My mom and I went on the FX Collectible show when I was young. She had a collectible “Gone with the Wind” plate and I brought a tag sale find - it was a gorgeous geisha figurine in a wooden box. Some man in Texas bought it for $50!
Super vain one — when I was 26 one of my customers was a plastic surgeon. He said “your lips are natural, right? They look it”. I said yes and he asked me to come in to his office so he could take pictures of my lips. So I did, and saw how he put it on his computer for his clients to chose from. Such a strange feeling thinking there are women who chose my lips. Also, I find it super annoying when people think I’ve gotten mine done. I never have and personally don’t like the fake lips look but hey whatever makes you happy :)
I’ve must have watched Dirty Dancing 1,000,000 times!
I always loved vintage style but what really inspired me to start seeking out vintage and vintage inspired fashion and decor was Mad Men!
