Behind the Boudoir - Glamour, Reality & Inspo
I wrote about doing a boudoir shoot in a post in November, 2017. My experience came from being part of a calendar for a local boutique that serves gorgeous, classy and very vintage-inspired lingerie and swimwear. I saw the calendar as very classy, glossy and glamourous and empowering (and super cute!!). All the shots were of women that looked strong, confident and owning their sexuality - whether it was in a swimsuit or pretty corset, a negligee or pretty nightgown. Everyone was covered and there was no nudity or shots I found distasteful. There are so many mixed messages in our society for women. You can’t be too sexy, you can’t be too prudish. You can't be too skinny, you can’t be too curvy.
Having a love for pin ups and boudoir glamour, I felt at ease with this shoot. It also took me a long time to love my body. I have written a post earlier in 2018 which I know set to “draft”. I opened up about those struggles and my life but I felt it was too open and didn’t have much of a positive slant. I, like, many other women have struggled with body issues. Working out and eating better has absolutely without a doubt made me embrace my curves and imperfections.
I know what it’s like though losing weight when stressed and people thinking I have an eating disorder when I don’t. I also know what it’s like to gain weight and people point it out. It’s hard to find the balance and to find peace with yourself when this happens. I try to stay away from the scale and think about where I want to be: healthy, fit, in shape but ultimately happy. I’ll never be a fitness model. I’ll also never be 21 again. And that’s all okay. Once I learned to balance food and exercise correctly, I found how much happier, healthier and better I looked and felt.
Confidence is very, very sexy. Over time, I’ve learned more about confidence and being confident in myself. Just because another woman is beautiful, doesn’t take away from your beauty. Beauty is also subjective. I truly believe a person’s light and energy can make them glow more than any Victoria’s Secret model. Self love is it’s own journey but it’s an eye-opening one. I enjoy pin up glamour and the sex kitten-ish poses of Vargas illustrations and Golden Hollywood starlets. They looked radiant and feminine and happy - I love that!
With all that being said - I wanted to share my favorite vintage inspired lingerie and sleepwear and my favorite pin up inspiration.
As always - click on the link to shop the looks! I also included some vintage inspo so you can channel the silky glamour of yesteryear!
