All About My Babe Cave

All About My Babe Cave

I've used my little room on the internet to stress the importance of having a space all your own. A space you can go into and feel instantly that it speaks to your heart, to your creative impulses, that matches your aesthetic and makes you want to create and unwind all at the same time. I've had tiny little apartments to myself but always carved out a corner or nook that I felt instantly relaxed when I realized I was surrounded by beautiful, precious things I collected even on a shoe-string budget.

My Babe Cave has turned into that place of magic and beauty. When I perused the web on expanding my babe cave, I stumbled upon Furniture.com . I realized every room makes a house a home. My Babe Cave was full of my beloved, fun, pretty things that instantly brought me to a more serene mental space and therefore made my house into a home. I wanted to write something about my Babe Cave, what inspired me and my favorite pieces I picked from Furniture.com

I've always loved Classic Hollywood. Marilyn. Grace. Clark. Ava. James. I wanted to bring that classy glamour into my room. The first thing was finding vanity that wasn't just pretty but utilizable. I was lucky to receive one for free from one of my residents leaving the state

I bought a jeweled mirror tray and put antique perfume bottles, an antique clock and a photograph of my grandmother Pauline and I in a gold heart-shaped frame. My husband and I went down to the nearest lumber and paint store so I could transform the blah off-white to something that better suited my lady room. I went through swatch after swatch, until I found a pretty pink called Flower Girl. It made me think of peonies in the summer, prom dresses in May, the pink of a brand new carousel. I'm an avid online shopper and quickly filled up the walls after the paint dried. I found a Grace Kelly movie poster, a Marilyn and Jackie advertisement poster that was featured on Mad Men. I even had a commissioned drawing of Marilyn and Jackie from Anna's Illustrations. I hung a large framed Marilyn getting ready in her very own vanity.  I bought a Retro Barbie calendar on clearance and my husband surprised me with framing them all and putting them up on my wall!

As I begin to move, I have been thinking of changing things around and what would best reflect my personality. Furniture.com is a wealth of information and items that I could spend hours on. Here's just a few of my favorite things that will be finding a new home soon:

I love this Consanto Silver Mirror - glamorous and elegant and inspired by the classic hotels of Grand Venice.

I love this fun yet sophisticated rug. The pink motif offers a refined and feminine touch to a room. I use to shy away from rugs but working in property management I learned how rugs and runners can actually visually make your room bigger. (Also: perfect for bare feet on cold mornings!)

I love pieces that are multi-functional. I love this pale pink bench that doubles as storage. I have so many books that the idea of secret storage makes my heart happy. Also, it's such a pretty shade of pink how could a Babe Cave be complete without it?

I just adore fun, funky pieces like this throw pillow. My Babe Cave wouldn't be truly mine if there wasn't something whimsical there. Also - they do come in handy after hours of blogging!

The most important part of making any room "yours" is making sure it is your aesthetic. It's so easy to get caught up in the trends and styles and what's in and what's out. Sticking true to yourself will make coming into your room that much better because it reflects like you like an elegant mirror. I really found some great ways to visually maximine space, cute decor and tips and tricks on creating a pretty yet serene space on Furniture.com - I'd highly recommend it to anyone who's moving or just re-doing a room. I often feel stressed with moving but reading through their articles has me excited about not just my babe cave but every room of our new house!
