"Come in out of the darkness"

Muse: Cindy Crawford

Muse: Cindy Crawford

Growing up, I was tall and quite lanky. Whenever there was a class photo, I had to stand in the third row - the last row, with the boys and the one or two other tall girls. I hadn't developed any feminine curves yet like some of my friends. I was accused of being bulimic before I even knew what it was. I found solace in the pages of glossy fashion magazines. My eyes and heart were awakened. Suddenly I saw models who were kind of awkward and lanky like me but they were considered beautiful.

(A strange introduction to Cindy Crawford, indeed.) As I got older and started high school, my body started to naturally curve and I took up running, my perception of beauty changed. I still loved models, but I loved the models of "yesteryear". Those powerhouse, amazon beauties like Naomi and Cindi and Christy and Linda. Kate Moss didn't sing to my heart anymore. I was too young to remember the peak of Cindy (To put time in perspective: I remember Amber Valetta and Shalom Harlow hosting House of Style)  but she was always an icon of beauty and style. She was always there. Her in those jeans with a pepsi is an iconic piece of pop culture.

I picked up a couple of postcards last week and saw the seductive glare of Cindy and just had to have it. It made me think of her style and how inspiring it was. The 90's are back in a big way so here's my guide to looking and dressing like Cindy.
